CREATED FOR WORSHIP - JESUS. LORD. KING. SAVIOR

Our goal is to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior – Jesus Christ.
The enriching experience of being part of a church is not just highlighted on Sundays-
it’s a daily adventure, best explored alongside others who will offer you support and encouragement.
As you take a look around we hope that you would be drawn to embrace the true essence of community.

We’re here for you in love and service, and we’d love to be a part of your journey.

We are The Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

We’d love for you to become part of the family!

We are hosting a free summer kids’ event called Roar VBS, where kids discover that God is good even when life gets wild! Kids participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, enjoy a yummy dinner, experience one-of-a-kind Wild Bible Adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies to remind them of God’s love, and test out Sciency-Fun Gizmos they’ll take home and play with all summer long. Plus, kids will learn to look for evidence of God all around them through something called God Sightings. Each day concludes with the Safari Celebration that gets everyone involved in living what they’ve learned.

The GSBC Community Yard Sale has become a real Community Event.  It was started as a way to give those in Trailer Parks a way to have a Yard Sale, which most Trailer Parks prohibit.  Depending on how the first yard sale went was going to determine if we would continue our planned “Once a Year” event.

As it turned out, it was such a huge success, that the Community asked us to hold it twice a year, and so we have.

Our Yard Sale is held the first weekend in June and the last weekend in September, on the Saturday, from 8 am – 2 pm.  Setup usually begins at 7 am.

We ask for a donation of only $5.00 per table/space.

We have limited tables on a first come first served basis, or you can bring your own.

We usually have donuts and coffee in the morning and a food outlet during the day.

We advertise in several local papers, on local radio, social media, this web site, as well as posters hung in many local establishments who support our goals.

What do we get out of the deal?

We get to meet the great people in our community and you get to know us in a non-threatening, no pressure way.  We get to share our facility with you, and show the Love of Jesus without preaching or teaching, just meeting and greeting, in an inviting way, with no strings attached – Guaranteed!!!

So come out to buy, come out to sell, or just come out to browse and grab a bite to eat.

It’s a great time!  See you there!

Verse of the Day 6/25/2019

Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the LORD. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the LORD. — Jeremiah 23:24 (NIV)

Stressful Days

There are days when it may feel as if we are just going with the motions. We get so busy in our day-to-day lives that we forget to stop and talk to God.

Reading Signs

Why do we learn other languages?  We learn them to help us effectively communicate with others.  I am learning American Sign Language (ASL) to be able to communicate with the deaf or hard of hearing.  I recognize that there is a distinct gap between them and the hearing community, and I want to be able to bridge that gap, as an interpreter.

Sharing Christ Is Like Riding A Bike

Author:  Shiela Bernardo
Try to recall the very first time you’ve embarked on a personal goal as a child, to maintain balance on your bicycle after the training wheels were taken out. How many times have you fallen and scratched your knees or elbows, as though they were battle wounds?

Unsolicited Advice

In Matthew 16:22-23, the plot of Satan was disguised through a disciple and friend speaking.  Peter was essentially trying to convince Jesus not to die on the cross, and therefore not to save humanity; when this is the very purpose of His life on earth!

The Goal of Ministry

DSC06245Ministry is an overflow of God’s love that is demonstrated by service to others. There’s intentionality in meeting people where they are at and ushering them into a relationship with Jesus Christ. But it is only effective when you start with God. He is the One who empowers and enables you to be a spring of blessing for others. It is very much an inward process of filling up the heart before any outward expression occurs.

Ministry is never one-dimensional nor should it ever be. It’s not just evidence of elbow grease for the sake of busyness – it’s more meaningful than that. It is relational and personal in nature. As J.R. Briggs puts it: “Faithful ministry isn’t a project. Ministry is people. The administrative elements of ministry should only be tools that lead us to building relationships with others.”   It calls for compassion as you work out peeling away the layers of people’s instinctive barriers. It is a continual commitment to stand by a person, waiting for them to become receptive to what you are teaching or sharing. It is discipleship in action.

DSC06296It may sound as though it requires much from you. And so often we find ourselves wrung out of energy and we reason out that we don’t have the time to commit to something that will pull us away from our already beefed-up schedules. But every burnt out soul needs refreshing. And in Proverbs 11:25, it says: A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.   So inspect closely the order of your priorities. See if there are any honest opportunities to re-align them, because there is truly nothing more fulfilling than taking part in the work that God is doing through people and toward people.

There are many opportunities from where you’re standing. Go ahead, and look around you. Ministry can purposefully be accomplished in the home, in church, in school, in your place of work. Wherever your mission field is, you are to display and magnify the very character of Christ in your interactions with people.

Every believer is called to ministry. And every ministry should be doing The Great Commission.  This, below, is the goal of ministry. Are you on point?

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age – (Matthew 28: 19-20).

Every believer heard about Christ’s offer of salvation from another person.  It could be from a friend, a family member, an evangelist, a missionary, or even a stranger, who at one point they had shared a conversation with, and planted the seed. Think about that person who God used in your own life to come to know Christ. Just as we were recipients of this life-changing blessing, we as a church also support several outlets of blessing to spread the gospel locally and in the far corners of the globe.

They are as follows:

  • Truth Helpers – a non-profit organization founded by Dr. Tom Berry that sends support to a school in Haiti and a bible school in Romania;
  • Timothy Initiative – an international church planting organization with the purpose of training pastors and church planters specifically in Nepal, India, and Africa;
  • International Ministries (Missionary Duane Binkley) – one of the first Baptist mission agency in the USA that started in Myanmar and has now active missionaries in Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas;
  • Crossover World – a non-profit organization ministering to Filipino children ages 4-14 and sharing the gospel using the basketball paradigm;
  • Kapatid Ministry – a Philippine-based non-profit organization ministering to impoverished families, children whose parents work abroad, and also to prison inmates in Iwahig Penal Colony in Palawan;
  • Delaware Baptist Association – a local group of Baptist churches aimed at strengthening each other while supporting church planting efforts; and
  • Baptist Convention of Maryland and Delaware – a group of Baptist churches from MD and DE, who are working together on ministries such as missions work, disaster relief, ministry training and support, church development, and evangelism.

It is through these kind of ministries that the good news circulate to people groups of countless areas of the world that we wouldn’t otherwise physically travel to.  But we are able to take part in the sending of missionaries, and in Romans 10:15 we read:  And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”  Perhaps some of them are extraordinary people, but most likely they are just regular people like the rest of us. Surely, the apostles were not that special by human standards. But God uses people like us to share His love and to do extraordinary things with eternal value. Everyday, He blesses us with the resources and strength to empower us to do His important commission. So let’s make sure that these blessings trickle down to others just like it did for us.
